The 2024 visual identity system for the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts School of Visual Design transmutes ceremonial flags into proto architectures of design speculation. By weaponizing the flag's inherent dialectic, simultaneously serving as ideological docking stations for collective visioning and speculative incubators for disciplinary subversion, this framework repositions GAFA as a generative node within global design's epistemic evolution.

High Mountains Flowing Water

High Mountains Flowing Water is a poster and visual identity created for an exhibition of Chinese and Italian art. The design blends Eastern and Western elements to express cultural exchange. The Chinese characters for mountain and water are joined with English letters in one fluid calligraphic motion, and the letters M and W form a shape that recalls a Roman column. A palette of red, white and green refers to the Italian flag. The exhibition title, date and venue are set in larger type for quick recognition. Tote bags, fans and staff badges share the same visual design.

Kakao AI Campus is a brand identity design created for a learning space devoted to artificial intelligence. The campus is open to company staff, local communities, civic groups and people with limited digital access, and it supports the training of AI talent. The brand system includes more than 50 icons, key visuals, illustrations, signage and morphing motion graphics built around the theme of the boundless potential of individuals. A design for all approach improves visibility and guides movement inside and outside the space.

SDI Teaching Building

SDI Teaching Building is a spatial visual design for the interior of a six floor teaching building. Large scale walls are combined with large scale text to replace an empty and rigid atmosphere with a creative one. A classic German typeface echoes the German teaching model of the design school. DIN, the standard typeface of German road signs, marks guiding information, while Futura is used for other text. Fine wall paint is applied up to five meters, with overlapping colors and stacked letters. Some text is made of acrylic to create a contrast of materials.

Chongqing Noodles is a themed mural illustration created for a Chinese food brand. The artwork centers on the food cities of Chengdu and Chongqing in the Sichuan Chongqing region of China. Surrounding areas appear in scattered and distant views, while the overall style remains Chinese. Urban architecture, natural scenery and many cultural landscapes are shown together with the brand specialty dishes. Cool colors contrast with the warm lighting of the stores. The mural is produced by heat transfer printing and is offered in several sizes to suit different store spaces.

Patterns introduce rhythm and continuity, while pictographs explain stages of the creative process, reflecting the idea of joy through art, creativity, design, and innovation.
